So an amazing netting took place today at Christophers, with an objective to survey the lake of fish and remove bio mass, Two nets were used and the first sweep on the car park bank yielded loads of Bream of all sizes and year classes. In with this was over 150lb of small Rudd and Roach. Also some bigger bream and carp. The small Rudd and Roach were removed. All other fish were returned. The fish were pristine.
Net two covered the rest of the lake and was pulled into the North bank. OMG more tiny Roach and Rudd, loads of Bream of all sizes up to 2lb. Loads of Cruicians, 250 Carp up to 12lb 6oz. A single Tench of 4lb. Ide, Big Roach to 10oz. Some bigger Rudd. Again all small Roach and Rudd were removed, totalling 250lb approx. Biggest fish were weighed and I need pictures please send to the following email address.
So we will leave the lake to settle and consider our options with new fish, Definitely some big Perch are being stocked to predate on fry. Please bear in mind a netting only gets potentially 45% of the fish. So we probably have more Carp ,Tench, Bream, Chub ,IDE, Roach , cruicians and Rudd.
No Perch were found.
The recommendation was that the lake needs supplementary feeding of pellets. We have three large sacks and once it warms up a bit we will implement a scheme.
It shows we have a healthy lake that is naturally recruiting spawning fish, especially Bream, Roach and Rudd.
The cormorant patrols really help , so thanks to Matt Archer, Ricky Gee and Roy Goulding.
My further thanks go to committee members who turned up and the volunteer members,
Thanks to Matt and Paul Maby who maintain this lake.
